Started the journey as a salesman, today is a successful businessman

New Delhi, September 8. There is a door to every place in the world, but not every salesperson can reach all those places. On the other hand, everyone is a consumer of different products, but the way he buys the product also defines his purchasing power and the capacity of the sellers. Thus we generally assume that someone who is selling his products door to door or in the streets will never be able to sell his products to the most famous and powerful people in the world. But nothing is impossible. Today we brought to you the story of a person who once used to sell his products in the streets, but today some of the most expensive places in the world (hotels, airports etc.) are his customers.

jute mill worker's son

We are talking about Asif Rahman of Kolkata. Asif's father was a jute mill worker, who was fluent in Arabic. His mother was a housewife, from whom he learned Sanskrit. Asif completed his graduation from Calcutta University in the year 1988 and started looking for a job. He was in dire need of a job.Asif got his first job when a shopkeeper invited him inside his shop on Park Street in Kolkata and asked him to sell carpets as a door-to-door salesman. They were standing outside looking at his shop with curiosity. That's why the shopkeeper called him and talked to him and offered him his first job.

hard work will get success

After embarking on a career journey in the carpet industry, Asif only knew that consistent hard work would lead to success, reports Kenfolios. As a door-to-door salesman, Asif sometimes faced physical and psychological challenges, including hard labor and humiliation. But Asif kept learning and became an expert in the carpet business. In the year 2003, Asif got an opportunity to work with a New York based carpet company.

started my own brand

During his eight-year-long stint with the New York-based company, Asif has mastered the carpet industry through an international approach and made good business contacts. During this time, he became a carpet-magician and decided to start his own business. Then he launched his company 'Insign Carpets'.

Contract received from Taj Mahal Palace Hotel

Asif soon got his first order and that too from Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai. This hotel is a unit of IHCL. The authorities there took several special permissions to pave the way for Asif to be included in IHCL's supplier list. Because they have strict rules for hiring suppliers. Since then, Insign Carpets has grown steadily and become a leading carpet manufacturer. Asif made extraordinary efforts to find carpet artisans from across the country. As of 2020, Insign Carpets had a team of 13 designers and 18 offices worldwide, and has manufacturing facilities in India and China.

Who are the clients

Once a salesman, the list of clients of Asif's company today includes Google and Louis Vuitton. Some of his company's best known projects include carpeting for the private yacht of the Crown Prince of Abu-Dhabi. The company's clients include major 5 star hotels and airports, private and government jets and the properties of the world's richest and most influential people. For someone who got into the carpet industry by accident and need and rose from door-to-door salesperson, this is indeed an unusual achievement.
