Ashish Shah founded Pepperfry.com in January 2012. Before starting this venture, Ashish worked in the fields of Sales Operations, Business Development, Supply Chain and Logistics for nearly 15 years.Actually after studying Chemical Engineering from University of Pune and then Advanced Diploma in Materials Management from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, Amit started his career in 1998 with Tradox Pigments & Chemicals as Branch Sales Manager. After working here for some time, Ashish changed the company and worked here for a year.Meanwhile, he worked in Commerce One India Pvt for four years and then in Baji.com. Ashish gained a lot of experience by working in all these companies. During this time the turning point of life came for Ashish when he took his biggest step and joined eBay Motors India as the Head of Sales & Operations.While Ashish gained experience in logistics and supply chain before eBay, during his stint at eBay, he learned the tricks needed to make a business a success. Seeing his good performance, the company promoted him from Sales & Operations Head to Business Head - eBay Motors (India & Philippines) and then to Head - Social Shopping in a short span of time. Ashish worked at eBay for almost 10 years.Here his name was included among the few people who worked to convert this company from zero to a $100 million business and to be recognized as the country's largest automobile transaction marketplace.

 

Fruit of 10 years experience

This promotion made Ashish realize such qualities in himself which he did not know before. This not only instilled confidence in them but also inspired and encouraged them to start their own business. After gaining 10 years of experience in eBay and understanding the tricks of the trade, Ashish decided to take the next big step.That decision was to start my own business. When Ambareesh Murthy, his colleague in eBay came to know about this idea of ​​Ashish, he also decided to support Ashish. Started with savings Chose lifestyle sector for business venture. The major reason behind choosing this sector was that despite being a huge industry, lifestyle was the largest unorganized sector.He observed that people are ready to spend huge amount on lifestyle products but still do their shopping in traditional way. The second reason was that not much work was being done online in this sector, due to which strong possibilities of business were visible in it. Realizing this gap, Ashish decided to start an online business in lifestyle products and home merchandise and founded Pepperfry.com with the investment of his savings.

More business than expected in the first month 

Pepperfry, which came into existence in July 2011, started its business in January 2012 and started making available furniture and home decor products online from micro industries, artisans and famous brands of the country.Within a month of starting, they did more business than expected. With time the business kept growing and in the year 2014-2015 the company's growth was 350 percent. Not only this, today with 6,50,000 customers from 12 countries including India, the business of Pepperfry is continuously increasing. Looking at this growth, Ashish is expecting to achieve a turnover of 1000 crores by the end of 2015.


A journey full of challenges

From the time Pepperfry was founded to its success, Ashish faced several technical problems. Lack of infrastructure and supply chain deficiencies emerged as the biggest challenges. Ashish says that this is a major hindrance in the growth of the e-commerce industry. This makes it difficult to reach such corners of the country where a large proportion of online customers reside. But despite these challenges, Ashish is constantly striving to take his business to greater heights.
