Story

The film begins in the Jharkhand city of Ranchi, where Paan Singh Dhoni (Anupam Kher) works as a motor operator. Paan Singh's job is to supply water to the houses of the colony as well as to the cricket ground. Paan Singh Dhoni has a daughter (Bhumika Chawla). Now Mahi (Sushant Singh Rajput) is born in his house. Since school days, Mahi was more fond of sports than studies.Seeing Mahi playing football in the school ground, the coach (Rajesh Sharma) of the school cricket team feels that Mahi should play cricket instead of football. Mahi first wants to avoid playing cricket, but can't resist the coach's advice. Mahi gets selected for the school cricket team.

From here begins Mahi's journey to make a mark in the field of cricket. Mahi's father Paan Singh is not with her in this mission. Father wants Mahi to do a government job. In such a situation, one day when Paan Singh gets the news of Mahi getting a job in Railways through sports quota, Paan Singh's happiness knows no bounds. After working for some time at Kharagpur railway station, Mahi decides to leave the job and pursue a career in cricket. Father is not with him in this step.

From here begins Mahi's journey to make his mark in the world of cricket which was not easy for him. In this journey, Mahi meets Priyanka (Disha Patani) on an airplane. Mahi is infatuated with Priyanka's simplicity and beauty, but after Priyanka's death in a car accident, Sakshi (Kiara Advani) enters Mahi's life. This story of Dhoni, which started from Mahi's birth, has Mahi's struggle as well as his personal life, marriage and journey till victory in the World Cup.

Acting

When director Neeraj Pandey chose the name of Sushant Singh Rajput for the lead role in his mega budget film, the people of the production company did not fully agree with his decision. Neeraj had not even seen any of his films before selecting Sushant. After seeing some pictures of Sushant, he was selected. Sushant did complete homework to play the character of Dhoni. Sweated for hours everyday, learned Mahi's style of playing cricket.This is the reason why Sushant Singh dominates the entire film from start to last.

Anupam Kher once again proved that he makes every role alive with his excellent acting. The other cast includes Disha Patani as Priyanka and Kiara Advani as Dhoni's girlfriend and wife. Rajesh Sharma in the role of Banerjee Babu, the coach who teaches Mahi the tricks of cricket for the first time in school, Bhumika Chawla, Dhoni's sister, has done justice to her character.

Direction

Neeraj has to be commended that he has made such a clean biopic with complete honesty, which you can go to the theater with the whole family without any hesitation. Neeraj has also shown in detail some such untouched aspects of Dhoni's life, about which his fans do not know much. This is the reason why the length of the film is more than 3 hours, which can definitely wear out Gen X in this era of multiplex culture.The length of the film could easily have been reduced to 30 minutes if Neeraj had shot the songs with just an interlude, besides reducing the romantic moments of Mahi's life in the film, as well as the events that happened during her service in the railways. Nevertheless, Neeraj has to be commended for shooting at real locations and starting the film after completing homework. Apart from Dhoni, the lead character of the film, he also gave the necessary footage to all the other actors.

Music: Undoubtedly, the songs of this movie stood the test of music lovers before the release of the movie. Background music is helpful in taking the story of the film forward, but almost all the songs of the film work to reduce the pace of the film. The filming of the song 'Besabriyaan' has turned out well.
